Establish the request and deadline

Save the original questionnaire, identify the product and use case, and confirm the submission date. Ask whether every question applies and which supporting reports are mandatory. Assign one owner for the final response so engineering, operations, and sales edits remain consistent.

Separate submission timing from remediation timing. Some questions can be answered with a clear limitation; others reveal a requirement needing a buyer decision or technical change. The enterprise review response plan helps classify those cases.

Create a response register

Use a row for each question or control statement. Include original wording, answer, technical owner, evidence link, review date, exceptions, and approval state. Preserve source questions even if you group duplicates internally.

Field Purpose
Owner Who can verify how the control operates.
Current answer A statement about the deployed product, with boundaries and exceptions.
Evidence and date A supporting record and when it was checked.
Next action Clarification, documentation, engineering work, or buyer decision.

A register still helps when you have a compliance platform. Stored artifacts need context explaining how they answer this customer’s particular question.

Verify answers before polishing wording

Route identity and permissions questions to the relevant engineer. Route incident procedures to their operational owner. Verify data handling, retention, and provider details against the actual product and agreed terms.

Avoid an unconditional yes when a control is partial. State the covered environment or group and describe exceptions. Planned features belong in a planned-controls statement with an owner, not a description of current behavior.

If independent testing is requested, identify the correct report and retest status. Scans, questionnaire reviews, and manual pentests serve different purposes. The SaaS pentest guide helps you describe coverage without overstating it.

Treat AI questions as product questions

Identify where prompts and customer data flow, which providers and connectors are involved, and how retrieval and tool access are authorized. Describe current configuration instead of repeating a general claim that the model is secure.

Where boundaries have been tested, state what was tested and its limits. Where they have not, be clear and decide whether AI Application & Agent Security is needed. Keep provider documentation distinct from evidence about your application.

Approve, share, and maintain the response

Have owners approve their statements. Check dates, product names, report scope, and attachments. Give each unresolved item an owner and tell sales which items require a reviewer decision.

Use an agreed sharing method for sensitive evidence. Retain a dated copy of the submitted response. Before reusing an answer, verify that the underlying system and control have not changed. An old approval does not automatically cover a new feature, provider, or tenant model.

Review the library when product changes affect security statements. A small set of verified answers is easier to maintain than a large repository of conflicting drafts.

When paid review support helps

The DevBrows Security Gate Sprint is $2,250 USD for one product and one request of agreed size. It reviews the request and architecture, inventories evidence, identifies prioritized gaps, and provides a working session and written plan.

Extensive drafting, implementation, and testing require separate scope. If a buyer already requires a pentest, SaaS Pentest starts at $3,450 ; complex work is quoted at $12,000–$18,000+. For audit-related requests, align expectations with the SOC 2 pentest guide .
